The below Summer family attraction blog has been written very much through personal experience, my wife and young son Ethan enjoyed an Anglesey week away, just last month. We stayed at the lovely ‘home from home’ Glan Y Mor (Ref – CH 531) which we really enjoyed and was perfect for our needs.
Hopefully, you’ll draw some inspiration from some of these days out, and it will help you see that there are lots to do on the Isle of Anglesey.

Day 1
Check-in at your Anglesey Holiday cottage. The holiday starts here!
Evening at Leisure and a chance to get to know your surroundings.
Unwind and relax with a favourite film or give the local pub a first look!
Day 2, (Rib Ride – A Tripadvisor certificate winner 2012-2017)
After enjoying a nice leisurely breakfast time to head off and enjoy the first family adventure of the holiday. Ribride Anglesey, is renowned for great family fun, and a thrilling rib ride around some of Anglesey’s wonderful landmarks. Today’s trip we enjoy ‘Castles & Islands’ from Menai Bridge to Caernarfon Castle, the ride passes Abermenai Point and the historic Napoleonic. Fort Belan. After the sand dunes of Newborough Warren head offshore to then arrive at beautiful Llanddwyn Island/Ynys Llandwyn a 2-hour trip.
As an alternative, to make the experience that bit more personable and memorable try;
Ride and Dine – A two-hour trip to Puffin Island from Menai Bridge, taking in the Bridges and Swellies before heading to Puffin Island and visiting the seals and taking in the sights and sounds of the Menai Strait. We return to drop you off at a waterfront eatery like the fabulous Dylan’s Restaurant.
£350 for 2 hrs on the RIB plus your dining arrangements.

Day 3
Anglesey is famous for its great blue flag beaches, it’s hard to have a favourite. My favourite seems to change every month!
One of the more popular beaches however is Newborough Beach and the most beautiful Llanddwyn Island. The area has grown hugely in popularity since Prince William & Kate Middleton started to frequent this spot when they lived on Anglesey. Please be aware that Llanddwyn although not completely an island and can be inaccessible at high tides.
Take a packed lunch, with a bucket & spade and enjoy one of Britain’s true beauty spots, also recommend taking a walk in Newborough forest one of only a few places left in the UK to spot the elusive red squirrel.
After all the fresh air, and an afternoon relaxing in Newborough why not head over to the Marram Grass restaurant at Newborough, a restaurant that prides itself on utilizing local produce, so pop in to try a ‘taste of Anglesey’

Day 4
A day out for the wildlife lover! Two great family attractions today that are always hugely popular for Anglesey holidaymakers; The Anglesey Sea Zoo & Pili Palace Nature World.
Anglesey Sea Zoo, showcases the very best of British Marine life, sea Conger eels, Sea Horses, Octopus and jelly fish just to name a few. A brilliant place to see what lies beneath off the UK coastline. Also of interest are lots of additional facilities, Crazy Golf, a kids bouncy castle, picnic tables and a coffee shop.

From personal experience, Pili Palace nature world is a great place to enjoy wildlife from all over the world.
A lovely butterfly farm with lots of great attractions, from exotic snakes & lizards to meerkats and pigs, it’s brilliant entertainment and very educational for all the family.
Of particular interest to families with infants and young children, there is a huge softplay and outdoor children’s playground perfect for entertaining your kids. There are 2 cafes here to.
Ethan my young son, particularly enjoyed the macaws, the colours on some of the butterflies also seemed to capture his imagination.
After enjoying many years as a young child in Anglesey, as a family, we created many traditions that we used to enjoy year after year. One I always used to look forward to, was a trip out in the evening to the Gazelle Pub just outside Menai.
I wouldn’t recommend heading to this pub if you are wheelchair bound or someone who is a bit ‘un-easy’ on their feet, as there are quite a few steep steps that wind down to the Menai Strait, but once you’ve made it down, your greeted with a quite spectacular vista of the Menai Straits that makes it all the more worthwhile.
Classic pub food is served at the Gazelle, I recommend enjoying some muscles with a white wine sauce whilst enjoying a Pint of the local bitter!
Day 5
Beaumaris. No trip to Anglesey is complete without a day trip to Beaumaris. A great Welsh seaside town, with its nice beach and famous Pier it really invigorates the senses.
If you have young children in your party, then introduce them to crab fishing! You can buy lines without bait for about £3 and it will easily keep your little ones amused for most of the day. I used to spend so many afternoons crab fishing on this Pier, so many happy memories!
Apart from the Pier, the town now offers so much more. There are lovely eateries great cafes and brilliant little coffee shops that will more than entertain anyone for hours.
Beaumaris is also a perfect place to experience some sea trips. A Puffin Island tour is a must if you are visiting for just a day. Great to see the famous birds, but also great to watch the seals and if you’re lucky some dolphin sightings.
Day 6
Trearddur Bay & South Stack. Two iconic Anglesey destinations. Head to Trearddur Bay in the morning and park at the Beach Car Park, it’s about £2 for an hour’s stay, which will allow you to take in Treaddur Bay Beach and the local surrounds. The Shanty Bay complex is also here which has a nice restaurant
If you want to be indulgent then coffee in Tre Bay Hotel is nice and will set you up for the day ahead.
After you’ve taken in Trearddur Bay head out onto the Lon Isallt (the main road out of Trearddur Bay heading north) and start to head off towards South Stack. The Lon Isallt road then becomes South Stack Road which will take you directly there and you’ll have the chance to stop at some of the quite breathtaking beaches/bays on the way up. Also handy to let your 4 legged friends out for a run and dip in the sea!
There is a bit of parking very close to the south stack, which is handy, as there is only one small road that leads up to the visitor center. Some good facilities at the visitor center itself, including an outdoor play area and food & beverage vans, are all quite well-priced. From here you can start to explore South Stack itself. If you’re feeling energetic you can walk out to the lighthouse itself which has quite stunning views.
After enjoying the views and wildlife of South Stack I’d recommend heading back to Trearddur Bay and getting some well-deserved lunch!
The Sea Shanty Café is brilliant, there is always a lively atmosphere in this restaurant and the food always hits the stop, they also have an outdoor bar area which is brilliant for a coffee or something stronger.
Day 7
And the last day on Anglesey. Off across to the east side of the island today and taking in Red Wharf Bay, Moelfre, and Bennlech.
Talking from personal experience, The Boathouse Café is a lovely way to start the day, with fantastic breakfasts and lovely coffee, (St David’s Spa is also close by if the family fancied a really relaxing morning!)
After the morning at Red Wharf Bay, it’s back on the road heading on up the coast to Benllech. Benllech is a very peaceful pretty Anglesey town, which has a lovely beach, with lovely soft golden sand perfect for building sand castles!
The beach itself at Benllech is a Blue Flag beach, so if the weather allows why not take a dip?
After taking in Benllech, make your way up the coast to Moelfre. A trip to Moelfre wouldn’t be the same without taking in the quite splendid Anns Pantry. A perfect spot for lunch, a quirky restaurant that allows you to enjoy a snack in Wendy’s house which we duly did! I recommend the ‘Buddha Bowl’ for lunch, yum yum!
As it’s the last night of the trip why not head to the only Michelin Star Restaurant on the island?
Sosban and the Old Butchers. Fine dining in quite a unique setting in Menai Bridge. Booking ahead is highly recommended as it gets extremely busy.
