Anglesey boasts over 100 miles of spectacular coastline within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The coastline of Anglesey offer a wide range sandy beaches and rocky coves, perfect for fun at the sea side.
Blue Flag Beaches
Blue Flag is a prestigious, international award scheme which acts as a guarantee to tourists that a beach or marina they are visiting is one of the best in the world.
It is awarded to coastal destinations which have achieved the highest quality in water, facilities, safety, environmental education and management.
Church Bay, on the north coast of Anglesey, has been awarded Blue flag status for the first time in 2011. It was given the accolade after judges assessed it against 29 European standards which included water quality, good litter management, provision of information, strict dog controls and sustainable environmental management.
In fact Anglesey can now boast seven ‘blue flag’ beaches and marinas at Benllech, Church Bay, Rhydwyn, Llanddona, Llanddwyn, Porth Dafarch, Trearddur Bay and Holyhead Marina.

Marine Conservation Society
The Marine Conservation Society only recommend bathing beaches that had excellent water quality during summer 2010. MCS recommended beaches on Anglesey include Llanddwyn, Abefrraw, Rhosneigr, Church Bay, Cable Bay, Trearddur Bay, Benllech, Moelfre and Llanddona.

1. Llandwyn, near Newborough
Spectacular views from this long sandy beach backed by dunes, in a conservation area. A two mile walk takes you to Llandwyn Island with quiet coves, the remains of the famous religious settlement founded by the patron saint of Welsh lovers – St. Dwynwen – coastguard cottages and an old lighthouse – stunning. Llandwyn has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag status for its water quality and standards of environmental management. Llandwyn is a recommended by the Marine Conservation Society as a bathing beach.

2. Trearddur Bay
3. Rhosneigr
Wide, long sandy beaches popular with families and watersport enthusiasts. The town beach is near all the local amenities. Rhosneigr boasts a range of attractive restaurants and cafe. Aviation enthusiasts can watch the show provided by the planes taking off and landing at RAF Valley across the bay. Porth Trecastle and Treath Crigyll beaches are both recommended by MCS.

6. Traeth Lligwy, Dulas
Long sandy beach with some shelter. Traeth Lligwy is recommended by the Marine Conservation Society as a bathing beach. The nearby ancient monument is worth a visit on the way.
7. Benllech
A family favourite. A long and sandy beach. Benllech has been awarded Blue Flag status. Blue Flag is a prestigious, international award scheme which acts as a guarantee that this beach is one of the best in the world in terms of water quality and environmental standards. Benllech is recommended by the Marine Conservation Society as a bathing beach.
8. Red Wharf Bay
This enormous sandy beach, with channels and inlets, is sheltered by hills and has a great pub and restaurant.

9. Llanddona
It seems endless, a beach for games as it never seems full. It extends to Red Wharf Bay. Llanddona is a Blue Flag beach which affirms its quality as one of the best beaches in the UK. Also MCS recommended.
10. Penmon
There are various beaches, stop at any. Parking after turning from the Llangoed road and you will find – sand, shingle, stone, a lighthouse, walks and ancient monuments. There is a small parking charge at Penmon point. Nearby, Lleiniog Beach is recommended by the Marine Conservation Society as a bathing beach.
