Pen Llyn Information

Pen Llyn – Things to Do and Tourist Attractions

Welcome to the beautiful and diverse Pen Llyn (Lleyn Peninsula), an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with unspoilt coastline. The Llyn’s variety is its special attraction and because of this has been a popular destination for holiday makers for many years. With its proximity to the Snowdonia National Park and the coastal towns of Criccieth, Pwllheli and Abersoch – this area has it all.

Naturally the area is a haven for watersports enthusiasts, but it is also popular with those seeking either a relaxing or non-water based action break. The Llyn offers something for everyone and whatever time of year you visit, you will be spoilt for choice.

Unspoilt charm

According to the National Trust ‘The Lleyn Peninsula is a Welsh jewel’. The long sweeping beach at Llanbedrog, the sheltered bay at Porthor and the colourful fishing village of Porthdinllaen are all to be savoured. A coastal path has recently been opened around the whole peninsula with its sweeping bays, majestic uplands and secluded coves offering a wonderful walking experience.

Llyn Coastal Path for walkers (and cyclists)

This 95 mile route from Caernarfon, all the way down the Llyn and back to Porthmadog, is based on the ancient pilgrimage route to Bardsey Island. The coastal path crosses a variety of landscapes from rocky cliffs to secluded bays, with the coast always nearby. In addition to the walkers’ path the Llyn has a network of small lanes and byways that also allow cyclists to complete the route.

Blue Flag Beaches

Blue Flag is a prestigious, international award scheme which acts as a guarantee to tourists that a beach or marina they are visiting is one of the best in the world.

It is awarded to coastal destinations which have achieved the highest quality in water, facilities, safety, environmental education and management.

Abersoch, Dinas Dinlle, Pwllheli and Criccieth have achieved Blue Flag status.

Pwllheli

Pwllheli, often viewed as the unofficial capital of the Llyn, is a small, colourful market town and Victorian seaside resort offering two beaches (South Beach and Glan-y-Mor) as well as Hafan Pwllheli, a marina with capacity for over 400 boats.

Criccieth

With its attractive coastal location, historic castle, sandy beach and rock pools, this seaside market town has much to offer.

Abersoch

This popular seaside resort was originally a fishing port but has now become an important centre for dinghy sailing, windsurfing, jet-skiing and watersports.
