Circular Walks on Anglesey’s Coast for you and your dog
The Anglesey Coastal Path follows much of the island’s 125 mile coastline within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is readily accessible from all parts of the island and clearly way-marked. There is a wonderful selection of ten circular walks developed by Anglesey County Council which reflect every corner of the island, from breathtaking coastal scenery to gentle pasture and forest. The circular walks will allow you and your dog to explore the captivating coastal scenery of Anglesey. NB dogs are restricted on some Anglesey beaches – see below for details.
Dog Walks in North East Anglesey
Brynrefail Circular Walk starts with a coastal walk at Lligwy Beach near Dulas and includes a climb to the summit of Bodafon Mountain before a return to the beach. Directions and map are available at the link below:
Bull Bay Circular Walk starts with a walk across the fields past a ruined windmill to the coastal path at Porth Wen where there are some dramatic cliff formations to be witnessed along the return journey. Directions and map are available at the link below:
Cemaes Bay Circular Walk starts from the car park in Cemaes and takes in lanes and paths across the fields to meet the Anglesey Coastal Path. You continue along the cliffs with steep climbs up and down towards Llanbadrig Church around the headland and back to Cemaes. Directions and map are available at the link below:
Dog Walks in North West Anglesey
Holyhead Mountain Circular Walk starts at Holyhead Country Park where you follow a path to North Stack and around to South Stack with spectacular views of the cliffs before dropping down to the beach at Porth Dafarch. Circular Walk – Holyhead Mountain
Rhosneigr Circular Walk starts from the off road parking area on the A4080 with a circuit of Llyn Maelog where there is opportunity to see a great many birds and other wildlife. Then it is back across the road to walk through the sand dunes of Traeth Llydan to reach the river running from Llyn Maelog to the sea. Directions and map are available at the link below:
Eastern Anglesey
Llanddona Circular Walk starts from the beach car park at Red Wharf Bay with a walk along the beach to join the Anglesey Coastal Path before heading across the fields to the high ground at Bwrdd Arthur (Arthur’s Table) an ancient hillfort with magnificent views of Snowdonia. Then it is down the hill across fields and along lanes to the sea once more. Directions and map are available at the link below:
Pentraeth Circular Walk. From Brick Street car park in Pentraeth, follow the signs across the fields to Red Wharf Bay before taking the Anglesey Coastal Path and then returning through Pentraeth Forest. Directions and map are available at the link below:
South West Anglesey
Brynsiencyn Circular Walk starts from the car park opposite Y Groeslon and takes you through woods and over the fields to walk alongside the Menai Strait before turning inland and climbing to higher ground back across the fields to Brynsiencyn with impressive views of Snowdonia along the way.
